Each year millions of Pacific salmon return to Southwest Alaska to spawn in an interconnected mosaic of rivers, streams, and lakes. The region also boasts the world’s largest native rainbow trout; colorful Dolly Varden char, arctic char, and arctic grayling; hefty lake trout, burbot, and northern pike; whitefish; resident and migratory lamprey; blackfish, sculpins, and sticklebacks.

Here you’ll also find the largest brown bears in the world, caribou, moose, wolves, black bears, ptarmigan, and millions of migratory waterfowl, shorebirds, and sea birds. Associated coastal marine waters are home to marine mammals including walrus, whales, and sea otters.
